A trader wishing to export fresh fruits and vegetables must undergo an approval procedure prescribed by the Department of Crop inspection and Certification in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries (MAAIF)
Registering with the Uganda Electronic Single Window (UeSW) is needed to obtain certificates of origin and other required permits for trade and to ensure these are transmitted to customs at the time of clearance.
Register as an exporter on the Uganda Electronic Single WindowOnce a trader has registered with the Uganda Electronic Single Window, they must register as an exporter in the system.
All animals and animal products are issued with a veterinary health certificate in fulfilment of international sanitary requirements. They are issued per consignment by Directorate of Animal Resources.
Food placed on the EU market must meet the legislation on food labelling. Trade packages and cartons of fresh fruit or vegetables must mention the following particulars:
Name and address of the packer or dispatcher;
Name and variety of the produce (if the produce is not visible from the outside of the packaging);
Country of origin;
Class and size (referring to the marketing standards);
Lot number for traceability or GGN if certified GLOBALG.A.P. (recommended);
Official control mark to replace name and address of the packer (optional);
Post-harvest treatment; for example, anti-moulding agents added in a post-harvest treatment of citrus fruits must be mentioned on the trade package;
Organic certification, including name of inspection body and certification number (if applicable).
The recommendation letter from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives (MTIC) is addressed to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries to introduce the business as export-ready. The recommendation letter is required to obtain Ministry of Agriculture-issued export permit.
Obtain registration as an exporter with Hortifresh UgandaHortifresh is the apex body for fruits and vegetables growers in Uganda. For exporters of horticultural products, membership with the Hortifresh is mandatory to obtain the export permit from Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries. It offers training programs through its Skills Centre, focusing on areas like good agricultural practices, market access, and compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards
The fish transporter is required to have a license for trucks carrying over ten tonnes. This is issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries

The exporter must obtain a fish export license for every consignment of fish and fish products. It is issued by Ministry of Agriculture, Directorate of fisheries licenses and permits portal
Exporters of dairy and dairy products must have their warehouses and storage facilities licensed by Dairy Development Authority
Obtain dairy certificate of registration to export dairy An exporter of dairy products who is not a producer will only need to use the Esingle window to register with the Dairy Development AuthorityA trader intending to deal in hides and skins must obtain an annually renewable buyer's license. This is aimed at controlling quality of the material for export. It is issued by Department of Animal Health
Obtain export permit for hides and skins A trader intending to engage in the export of Hides and Skins must obtain an annual export permit issued by the department of Animal production and Marketing in the Directorate of Animal Resources There are three types of Tobacco produced in Uganda;

The Mineral Dealer’s Licence (MDL) gives the holder the right to buy, sell and deal in minerals. Section 69 (2) of the Act prohibits any licenced mineral dealer from buying minerals from a person who acquired their minerals unlawfully. The Mining Act 2003 permits holders of Mineral Dealer’s Licenses to buy, acquire, sell or dispose minerals in the course of his or her business 5 from a person who acquired his or her minerals lawfully. The holder is required to apply and pay a prescribed fee. Every holder of a Mineral Dealer’s Licence is be liable for the due payment of all royalties due on any minerals bought, received or exported by the holder.
A trader wishing to export coffee is required to have a coffee export license which is issued annually by the Ministry of Agriculture,Animal Industry and Fisheries department of Coffee Development.
Register a grading facility All facilities where grading and color sorting of coffee for export are carried out are inspected, registered and regulated by Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA)The Quality mark is a Third Party Guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products to the consumers and an assurance of conformity to relevant standards. The Quality Mark is issued by Uganda National Bureau of Standards and applies to all processed products and certain crops such as Maize. The Quality Mark should be visible on the product.
